Basilica Iovianou Palaiopolis

The Early Christian Basilica Iovianou Palaiopolis is found in Kanoni, just opposite to the entrance of Mon Repos and the Roman Baths. It was built by the bishop of Corfu Ioviano in 463 A.D. in the middle of Corfu's Roman agora and very close to the port Andinoou. The construction is referred in the inscription on the west entrance and on the narthex mosaic pavement. The inscription is written on a hexameter, and mentions that the temple was built by Iovianos after having destroyed the pagan altars in the area.
